Hi, I’m Adela. I’m the creative director at Jackdaw Digital and this is just a brief introduction to what we do at Jackdaw.
Digital strategy is our main service, and really, it’s designed for business owners who want to grow their business. So what is a digital strategist? It’s a similar question to what is a business strategist or business consultant or a brand strategist? There are so many different answers to this question, because it all depends on your own personal skills, your background, and your experience. All of that defines what you bring to the table when you work with your clients.
So according to Jackdaw, digital strategy supports several elements of your business. Business strategy, so how does our business reach its goals, so there’s some financial strategy in there too. Brand strategy, which is how you’re presenting your business, or your brand, to your customers, and then of course, marketing strategy.
So strategy is the bigger picture. And then you can drill down until you get into your tactics. So email marketing, social media marketing, and so on. Imagine you’re at the top of a rain forest canopy, and you’ve got everything going on below, and you’re taking this higher perspective as a digital strategist into someone else’s business, their brand, and their audience.
So digital strategy is this overlapping, if you imagine business strategy, brand strategy, digital marketing, and digital strategy. And it’s the interplay between these different elements. Strategy also could be seen in a more linear way as covering those higher level elements: digital, brand, and business. And then underneath the tactics – website, email, social media, courses, podcast, marketing, and of course, we’re talking in the digital space.
And so how do you do it? How do you do digital strategy? Well, it involves a few core skills. Deep listening, and emotional intelligence. And I like to explain it like this – it’s the ability to dance between this creative inspiration and strategic thinking. So you’re looking to achieve a dance in flow state. So when you’re working with your clients, that’s kind of what you’re looking for.
I love this quote by Fabian Geyrhalter, I’m a big fan of his work. He says – ‘the business plan takes care of the left brain of your organization. And the brand platform takes care of the right brain, the side that will be responsible for connecting with your audience. Both are crucial for a functional empathic brand’. So why I mention this is because brand strategy and digital strategy do have an overlap when you’re talking about growing your business.
And so how do you start the conversation when we’re working with a client? With this simple question – tell me about your business? And then we wait. And then we listen.
You can’t be everything for everyone everywhere, all the time. That’s literally going to lead to burnout. Gain clarity with digital strategy.
